The hoodiepeople.com hoodie drive has officially come to an end and we would like to say our thanks. A special thank you to St. Anthony Foundation, San Francisco. This foundation feeds over 1,500 hungry people a warm lunch everyday, offers clothing handouts, and provides a variety of social services to our city’s homeless population. It is a truly remarkable foundation and it just takes one trip down there to see how much their services are needed. The Foundation served as a channel for our donated hoodies to be delivered to the right people. Our hats are off to the staff over at St. Anthony. For real!
We would also like to thank everyone who donated a hoodie, and those who where involved in any kind of way. Without your help this drive wouldn’t have been possible and you made it a huge success. Week after week more hoodies were donated and our bins seemed to stay full. A big thanks to the team over at Triumph 4th Street in San Rafael, CA for providing space in their store for our hoodie drive.
As a result, we were able to donate a total of 94 warm hoodies straight from the community. Instead of staying packed away in the depths of our closets these hoodies will be keeping people warm at night and preventing illness. This has provided a unique sense of satisfaction for the team at hoodipeople.com and we are fired up about doing it bigger next year. We would also like to encourage you to continue donating. Today is truly an amazing day in America and around the world. Today, for the first time in our nations history a man of color will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. hoodie people around the globe will be at the edge of our sets and in streets as Barack Hussein Obama takes over as the commander in chief. We can all celebrate this momentous occasion because for the first time the color of our President’s skin reflects the color of our nation. We are not one color or one race but a diverse mix. This is why this country exists and now for the first time, there is real evidence that the constitution is a living document.
America has recently suffered and inflicted so much pain and embarrassment at home and around the globe, from the aftermath of Katrina to the deserts of Iraq. While none of these memories will go away, at the very least we can now hold our heads high and look people in the eye to say, “not in our name”, and “we are better then that.” The world will not suddenly change and all our problems wont be solved, we def know that, but what does change is our outlook moving forward.
As a small startup business there are many issues and causes we hope Mr. Obama takes on. We recently saw him champion the economic stimulus package that sent hundreds of billions of dollars to the largest banks and financial institutions in America, and sincerely hope he plans to assist and support small companies as well. But today is not about policy or handouts, it is simply a day to celebrate history, hope, and end of the horrific Presidency of George W. Bush.
Cheers to you Dr. King and Malcolm X for inspiring us to believe in making change by taking action. Cheers to you Mr. Obama and cheers to all of the people that worked so hard to make this dream a reality.
