Young Buc’s

Category: UncategorizedAaron Dolores @ 8:39 pm

Of the teams that have got off to a good start this season; the Tampa Bay Buc’s are without question the biggest surprise.  Although the Buc’s played two teams that need some help themselves in Cleveland and Carolina, this is the NFL and there are no easy wins.  So far this season Tampa Bay has relied on its defense, a second year developing QB, and a break out rookie wide receiver.  Let’s take a look at the Bucs’ and see what makes them tick.

The Buc’s only won 3 games last season and much of that was in part to their struggling rookie QB Josh Freeman and a inconsistent D.  Well Freeman must have done a lot of self reflection and improvement in the off season because he has started out this year looking like a new man.  His completion percentage has got a lot better from last year, and most importantly he has keep his turnovers down, this year he has thrown for 4 touchdowns to only one interception.   Kellen Winslow Jr has been a huge target for Freeman this year and seems to be his go to guy, but when Winslow draws all the attention from the secondary, rookie WR Mike Williams has capitalized.   Winslow Jr is leading the team in receptions and yards, but it’s been Williams who has found the end zone twice already this year.   RB Carnell Williams has not broke out this season only averaging about 63 yards per game, but with Freeman playing better and Winslow and Mike Williams catching more balls, things will open up for Carnell Williams.

TB has traditionally been known for its D and this year they have been able to control the pace of the game relying on their defense to get them the ball back.  13 year veteran DB Ronde Barber has played solid thus far this season with an interception in each game and the TB secondary held the Panthers under 200 yards receiving.  Barrett Rudd leads the team in tackles and helped the Bucs keep one of the best pair of RB’s in the league in Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams less than 100 yards combined, that’s not easy to do

Of all the teams off to a fast start, I think Tampa may be a bit of a mirage.  They played two teams that don’t have much going for them and they have not been overly impressive in any one aspect of the game.  Their next three games are against Pittsburg, Cincinnati and New Orleans and I expect them to lose all three.  If Josh Freeman can continues his development and Kellen Winslow Jr can stay healthy, the Bucs have a chance of finishing 8-8 this year.

Kansas City Chiefs Baby

Category: UncategorizedAaron Dolores @ 7:49 pm

Most fans were surprised to see the Kansas City Chiefs opening up on the national stage with a Monday night game.  Even more surprising was them beating the San Diego Chargers, who have been one of the better teams in the AFC for the last 5 years.  Not only did the Chiefs retrofit Arrow Head Stadium in the off season, they retrofitted their team and their energy and put the NFL on notice.   If you like high energy, smash mouth, big play football, the Chiefs are the team to watch.  Can they keep this up all season? Let’s take a look

Every team lives and dies with their QB, like it or not.  Last season the Chiefs went out and signed Matt Cassel who serviced has a better than expected back up for Tom Brady when he went down in New England.  Matt Cassel has yet to live up to the hype, but he has a support cast that may be able to take the pressure off him this year.  It all starts in the back field for KC with one of the most dynamic running back duos we have seen in years with Jamal Charles and Thomas Jones.    Jamal Charles is technically their starting RB and he is capable of scoring from anywhere on the field with his mix of power and speed.  Thomas Jones is the veteran running back that keeps the chains moving and always protects the ball, he lost Zero fumbles last season with the Jets.  Look for KC to control a lot of games with their running game.  The WR core is where the chiefs need some help.  Dwayne Bowe is there best receiver and has all the size and ability in the world, but has yet to pan out as a dominant receiver.  They brought in veteran receiver Chris Chambers to lighten the load and open things up for Dwayne Bowe, but that has yet to happen this season.

The Chiefs do not have a star studded Defensive but they are tough at home and play with a lot of energy and will.  Their secondary is lead by a DB any coach would love to have in Brandon Flowers.  He can cover, plays physical, tackles, and is a hawk for the ball.  Last game he had a pick 6, accounting  half his teams total points.  Their linebacking core is lead by Derrick Johnson who this year already had 19 tackles and one forced fumble.

Special Teams is where I absolutely LOVE the Chiefs in the 2010-11 season.  When you are a team that relies on energy and big plays, nothing gets your team and fans going more than an electric kick return.    The Chiefs changed the complexion of their organization this year when they drafted Dexter McCluster out of Mississippi and Javier Arenas out of ‘Bama.  Both of these guys are fast as lightning, have vision down field, and can change the game with one kick or punt return.  Anytime you see a team kicking the ball to the chiefs this year, look for either of these two rookies to impress.

What I love about head coach Todd Haley is not only his ability to energize his players, but that he brought in Romeo Crennel as his defensive coordination and Charlie Weis as his offensive coordinator, two of the best in the NFL.  Those two are going to give the chiefs a chance to win every game.  I expect the chiefs to win a lot of games this year not only because they play in a weak division, but they get to play the NFC West, who is also extremely weak.  With a little bit of luck, I think the chiefs have a chance to finish the season either 10-6 or 9-7 and maybe sneak in to the playoffs.    Either way the chiefs are a fun team to watch this year.  Check them out.

Stay tuned tomorrow for more up and coming team breakdowns brought you by hoodiepeople.com

2 Weeks Into the NFL Season

Category: UncategorizedAaron Dolores @ 9:31 pm

What do the Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Bucs, Miami Dolphin and the Kansas City Chiefs all have in common?  They are all 2-0 and in first place.  One of the most entertaining aspects of the NFL is the parity in the league and the ability of NFL teams to make quick franchise adjustments that can translate into wins.  Are all of the teams legit? Maybe not, but let’s run down a quick profile on these 4 teams and see what has them winning games early this season.

To the diehard NFL fans and fans of the Houston Texans their fast start may not come as a surprise, but I don’t think anyone saw them getting their first two wins against the AFC Champ Colts and the new look Redskins.  I expect the Texan to compete all season and maybe even get their first playoff win.  They are lead by emerging super fantasy football star QB Matt Schaub and probably the best WR in football Andre Johnson.  One of the problems Houston has had in the past is running the football, this year they have inserted little known undrafted RB Arian Foster, who exploded for 231 yard rushing in the season opener VS the Colts.   With the 3 headed monster of Andre Johnson, Arian Foster and Matt Schaub, the Texan have one of the highest powered offenses in football.

Although the Texans do not have one of the best defenses in the league, they have done enough to keep them in games.  Their D is lead by number one overall pick Mario Williams who has a total of 4 sacks over 2 games.  He dominates the line of scrimmage and is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL.  LB Zac Diles, who only had 62 tackles last season, already has 20 in the first two games and has been great helping the Texans stop the run.  Look for the Texans D do just enough to keep them in games.

With Matt Schaub leading the NFL in passing yards and Arain Foster leading in rushing yards, it’s no wonder why the Texans are off to a fast start.  Their D has some work to do and has only created one turnover the whole season, which should improve. Looking at the Texans schedule, they could very easily go 12-4 this season, but considering they are a young team and a up and coming franchise, I expect they will lose a few games this season they are suppose to win and end up at 10-6.

Stay Tuned Tomorrow for a break down on the Miami Dolphins.

Watch out for XV

Category: UncategorizedAaron Dolores @ 10:07 pm

The Hip-Hop landscape is constantly evolving as old cats fall off and young rappers start making their mark in the game.  One of the upsides to the explosion of social networking sites, twitter, and music sharing is that musicians and their fans are communicating directly with one another.  No longer do artist need the radio or major record labels to spread their music and brand.   One rapper that is starting to making a name for himself in the industry is XV from Wichita, Kansas.  XV has been dropping mixtape after mixtape and finally after years of hard work, spitting rhymes and doing shows, he signed a deal with Warner Bro Records.

XV falls into a new category of hybrid rappers that are bursting on the scene and taking over the music industry, not just rap.  There was a time in the hip-hop game where you were either pop, gangster or conscious, and within that, your sound was closely tied to what coast you were from.  Some of the new rappers, although still rep their city, have a sound that mixes the best of not just all coasts, but all types of music including dance, pop and country.  The veteran of this new brand of hybrid hip-hop is Lupe Fiasco but includes Drake, J- Cole, B.O.B, Wiz Khalifa, Wale, and of course Kid Cudi. These rappers not only musically taking chances, but lyrically are all over the board from taking about girls, spending money, social and political issues and selling drugs.   XV is the next in line to rise to the top and I predict he will become a star.  Click on the following link to listen and down load his new mix tape and let know what you think

Monday Night Football

Category: UncategorizedAaron Dolores @ 10:37 pm

I couldn’t be more excited that football season is back, especially Monday night football, its as American as the Cheeseburger.  Monday is normally a dreadful day, you are back at work, tired from the weekend and feel like you don’t have much to look forward to other than a long tiring work week.  Knowing that you have a nationally broadcast football game coming on later that evening helps you ease into the week.  Let’s take a look at tonight’s games.

Jet Vs Ravens

No team in the off season had more hyping going into this season as the J-E-T-S.   In the preseason they were featured on the HBO hit show Hard Knocks, which follows a team during training camp and preseason.  Their coach Rex Ryan is one of the biggest personalities in football and has put a huge target on the back of the Jets. The Ravens come into this season with high expectations as well.  They are a team that is known for its defense, but in the off season actually took a huge step forward offensively picking up Anquan Boldin and TJ Houshmandzadeh to beef up their WR core.

This game was dominated by two of the best D’s in the league.  Baltimore scored the only touchdown in the game with a short run my Willis McGahee.  The ravens off season pick up Boldin showed how he can help the ravens with 7 catches for 110 yard receiving.  The biggest story of this game was the inability of Jets QB Mark Sanchez to lead his team on any scoring drives.  He looked out of sync with his receivers and scared to throw the ball down field, he mainly just threw dump offs.    The Jets only got 5 first downs the whole game.   It was not a pretty win, but the ravens did just enough to squeak it out.

KC vs SD

The Chiefs looked like a different team tonight.  There Defense was hitting hard, their offense was dynamic, and they made big plays.  KC running back Jamaal Charles had a 56 yard touchdown run and their rookie WR Dexter Mccluster ran back an eclectic 93 yard punt return.   The KC fans helped energize a new looking Chiefs team as they opened their new football stadium.  Philip Rivers looked frustrated for most of the first half and was having trouble throwing in the rain.  SD did just enough to hang around and with 39 second left in the game on 4th and goal the Chiefs Defensive held tight and stopped the chargers to hold on for the win.   Great game!

A Glutton for Attention

Category: UncategorizedMansa Gills @ 6:38 pm

I’m sure most people have heard by now of the insane and inexcusable ranting of religious nut Terry Jones and his crusade to burn the Quran tomorrow on the 9th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. If you haven’t heard about it, I envy your ignorance of this idiot and apologize in advance for bringing any attention to him. I won’t sit here and give my opinion on religion or explain why I haven’t considered myself apart of any organized religious institution since I was forced to sit in the pews of a sweltering hot church as a child. Nor will comment on how incredibly wrong and horrible that every word out of Jones’ mouth was, he’s done a pretty good job showing everyone how crazy he is on his own. My beef is actually with CNN and the mainstream media. The problem is that I shouldn’t even know who this guy is; the name Terry Jones should mean absolutely nothing to me, but sadly, it does. His maniacal babble has reached the ears of  practicing Muslims of the Middle East, where anti- American sentiment is already damn near considered a way a life. The last thing soldiers whose lives are on the line at every moment need to deal with is a buffoon no where near the action fueling a fire that’s already burning out of control. Rather anyone agrees with America’s deployment of troops in the Middle East or not, the fact of the matter is that there are people over there in the trenches whose lives are now in serious danger due to one man’s deplorable disrespect.

CNN shouldn’t have never interviewed this man, his opinions and misplaced rage should not have been broadcast for the world to see. There are extremist walking around claiming the end of the world around the corner who would never see the light of day, but I’m sure if one of them was in front of the television quoting bible scriptures that fit their argument you would have groups of people flooding supermarkets to supply their bomb shelters. My point is that there was no need to give this man any attention, no need to place a spot light on his little misguided church group. I’m sure the people over at CNN and some viewers at home had a good laugh at Jones’ idiocy or were purely disgusted by his extremely ignorant viewpoint on Islam, but they did not consider the harm that they were causing to people across the globe. Terry Jones begged for a stage to feed his ego and scream his hatred and CNN and other mainstream media sources fulfilled his request. There are already claims that the burning could invoke an uncontrolled response by Muslims and put troops in grave danger, not t mention the practicing Muslims in this country who have listen to a raving lunatic dishonor their religion. Without the aid of our media, they might have burned the Quran in their little small town and no one would’ve ever heard about it, but now if they do proceed with this action tomorrow there’s no telling what the implications might be.

My friend came over to my apartment a few weeks ago with his 5 year old daughter and we were all watching TV. She started acting up a little bit as my friend scolded her to calm her down, but I couldn’t stop laughing at her and despite her father’s attempts discipline she kept at it. If I wasn’t laughing and giving her the attention she was craving  she would’ve stopped, her father wouldn’t have had to spank her sending her to couch crying and pouting. See what I’m getting at?

Friday After Work!!!

Category: UncategorizedAaron Dolores @ 5:00 pm

Getting out of work on Friday afternoon feels like the last day of high school.  You hop in your car like dukes of hazard, turn up some music;  no matter how crappy your sounds system is, right now it sounds perfect.  All of a sudden that same traffic that had you pulling your hair out all week doesn’t seem quite as bad anymore.   Your phone is buzzing, folks wanna know what’s up for the weekend, and the weather always seem to be a little nicer than it was during the week.  Whatever had you stressing out at work is a afterthought,  F**K it, you’ll deal with that Monday.

The possibilities of possibilities sinks in, the feeling of having to be NO WHERE, but the option to going ANYWHERE.   Going home to take a nap in peace sounds just as fun as going to the bar for happy hour.   When you get home, walk in the door, drop off your bag; it feels like you just landed on the freaking moon.  Your house now feels like a summer beach house in the Hamptons.  I personally like to grab a beer and just turn on the most mindless TV show I can possibly find, something I would never have time to watch during the week, hopefully Antique Roadshow is on and you can flip back and forth between that and the Ochocinco show.   From there, I might grab a bite to eat, fall asleep on the couch, wake up-take a shower and hit the streets for the night to celebrate being off work with everyone else that feels the same damn way.  Cheers to getting off work !!

Whats your favorite thing to do when you get off of work?

Thursday Night’s NFL Season Opener: Saints vs Vikings Break Down

Category: UncategorizedAaron Dolores @ 11:40 pm

Well the NFL season sure is opening with a bang this year.  A rematch of last season’s NFC Championship game THRILLER.   These are two of the most exciting teams in the league, and this game is guaranteed to be an instant classic.  Speaking of guarantees, Minnesota Vikings All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson already guaranteed a victory for the Vikes (see video here).    The Saints and the Vikings are clearly the most talented teams in the NFC , maybe the whole NFL, so picking a winner is going to be tough.  Will AP’s guarantee prove true? Or will the Saints prove they are the best team in football, again.

The first topic of conversation that always comes up opening week in the NFL is whether or not the champs will have a super bowl hang over.   I think not, the Saints are opening at home, in one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL, they will be unveiling their Super Bowl banner, and we can’t forget that the 5 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina just passed, in New Orleans, THAT MATTERS.

With neither team signing any major free agents in the off season, I think in order to determine an edge in the game you have to first consider 2 key off season health concerns for the Minnesota Vikings.   First is Percy Harvin, who collapsed during train camp workouts due to migraine headaches.  Harvin is expected to play on Thursday, but missed pretty much the entire preseason, so he could be rusty.   Even more importantly, Brett Farve’s favorite target last season, Sidney Rice, just had hip surgery and will be out until midseason.   This is a major blow to the Vikings receiving core and their ability to keep up with the high scoring Saints.

Let’s not forget Minnesota has a great defensive, they stop the run very well and Jared Allen leads a D line that can always get to the quarterback and cause problems. On the other side of the ball, the Vikings have one of the best running games in football, lead by Adrian Peterson, and like to try and control the clock by pounding the ball.  The problem with that strategy against the Saints though, is that they play in a dome and can put up points faster than anybody in the NFL.  If your running games stalls in the least bit, you will find yourself getting blown out.

The most important factor in who will win on Thursday: is that the strength of the Saints D lies in the fact that they are extremely opportunistic and create a lot of forced fumbles and interceptions.   That happens to be the Vikings weakness, and it showed last season in the championship game with Brett Farve throwing two interceptions, one on the final drive, and AP losing two fumbles.  When one team’s strength is also the other team’s weakness, you have a clear winner.  I think the Saints will create turn over’s and ride the energy of the crowd to another victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

Tell us your thoughts.

Stay tuned for more breakdowns on everything in LIFE!
